Guys,

Don't worry too much about the 24-bit thing. It doesn't have anything to do with the actual video data in the file. All it is is a metadata field in the AVI file container itself.

The internal video data in a DivX file is always 4:2:0 YUV (same as MPEG-2) which actually consumes 12-bits. (YUV is more efficient than RGB so don't be confused by the "low" number of bits.)

Prior to 5.0.1, we would use the color depth of the source material (YUV 4:2:0 12bits,YUV 4:2:2 16bits, RGB 24bits or RGBA 32bits) and use that value to set the field on the AVI file. But this was not really correct because as noted the internal data was 12-bit. What's more, it introduced a bug because videos with the same resolution but different color depths could not be appended to one another in VirtualDub.

So in 5.0.1, we decided to set this field to 24-bits on all files. Since the field isn't really used for any functional purpose, we just chose a standard value (24 seemed good ) so that the "appending videos" bug could be fixed.

The value of that field does not affect playback in any way.

Cheers.

Also keine Panik wenn da mal nicht die Farbtiefe steht die ihr erwartet habt.
